Media Release: Table Mountain National Park hikes fees

Date: 30th October 2008

On 1 November 2008, Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) tariffs will increase on average by R5.00 per day for visits to the Cape of Good Hope, Boulders, Silvermine, Oudekraal, and the popular Perdekloof, Newlands and Tokai picnic sites.

For owners of a Cape Town Wild Card access to these areas in the Park is free.

Cape Town citizens can purchase a Cape Town Wild Card for R60 at TMNP offices in Westlake, Tokai, Boulders and at the Buffelsfontein Visitors Centre. The cards are also sold at the Cape Town Tourism visitor information centres throughout the Cape metro.

"This is the first tariff increase since the launch of the Cape Town Wild Card five years ago,” says Brett Myrdal, park manager, Table Mountain National Park.

The card is a tailor made benefit for Cape Town citizens and provides 12 “free” entries at any of the paying sites within the TMNP. This includes Cape Point where the gate tariff is normally R60, so with 12 free entries at R60 the holder of the CT WILD enjoys a value of R720. If the CT Wild Card is used 12 times at Cape Point this costs exactly R5 per entry.

Tariffs for permits associated with the Wild Card, for example, horse riding, hang gliding, line fishing remain unchanged. Also, rates for the popular Hoerikwaggo Trail remain the same.

For more information about tariffs or to book function facilities and accommodation contact the TMNP offices at Westlake Office Park tel: (021) 701 8692.

** The Wild Card was launched in 2003. It is issued by TMNP and SA National Parks and allows holders special discounts at park facilities and certain other attractions.**
