Wednesday, 25 June 2008 - Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) would like to warn visitors to the Park to be careful as there was an incident, where a group of four visitors and a guide were mugged at the Silvermine dam this afternoon.  One of the visitors was stabbed.

The group were with a guide, who managed to get away and call for help. Fortunately, a TMNP ranger arrived while the incident was being reported. He immediately activated the Kirstenhof SAPS, TMNP visitor safety rangers and TMNP dog unit who are now combing the area. The suspects, who are believed to have accessed the dam via the open access points, fled on foot and are still at large.

The victims are believed to have left for hospital. The TMNP staff will continue patrolling the area until closure of the Silvermine section at 18h00 this evening and patrols in the area will be increased. This is a first incident of this kind in the section.  Silvermine is a section of Table Mountain National Park.
