Collecting Data for Developing Educational Unit

Unread postby Bob McDaniel » Sun Jun 15, 2014 5:39 am

Hello,
I am a science teacher in West Virginia. My goal is to develop a real-world inquiry-based unit to teach my students about blue-green algae, microcystis, and animal behaviors as related to the occasional outbreaks at Kruger.

The student would act as scientific investigators to determine why African animals are dying. Once they determine what is causing the animals to die, they would be asked to offer suggestions to remediate the problem and reduce the incidence of it happening in the future.

If my teaching salary permitted it, I would make the trek to Kruger Park myself as I try to get first-hand experiences where I can. In lieu of that, I am asking for your help. I would like to get several pictures of animals who have died from microcystis poisoning as well as any data/suggestions you would like to offer. Once my teaching unit is finished, I would be happy to forward you a copy so that other teachers could benefit from our collaboration.

Such a unit would help my students develop a scientific mindset. Since I live and teach in a rural region of the United States, a teaching unit like this would help my students better care for their own livestock.

Thanking you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Bob

You will find a lot of material on this site already. Just trawl through the tab 'Conservation' above looking for Scientific Services, etc. Also on the forums under Quizzes, Mammals, Birding, etc for relevant topics.

In fact you could refer your students to this site!
Smiling is contagious. Start an epidemic today!

Have you read the entrance permit? Do you KNOW the Conditions of Entry?

Completed over 6 years in Kruger in my caravan.

If I was normal I wouldn't be me!
