Hope you didn't lose to much. When I lost my computer's hard drive I lost all my pics for about 3 months. Enough new bird pics for at least 3 challenges. Lot's of waders , gulls and terns as well as some lovely whale pics. I had a trip out to Dassen Island to see some Jackass Penquins and on the way we came across about 60 to 70 whales feeding

that's i suppose a reminder for me to back my pics up onto an external drive (ideally to two drives, obviously) and maybe even a cloud service (dropbox seems more private than other filesharing sites and ok if you can get freebee addons 0.5Gb courtesy of the mods, friends etc).

I had a couple of camera flash cards die on me because they were large and not formatted in the camera so they had the pics on them but most weren't easily recovered. Like the challenges everything is a learning exercise.

[techy: use EXFAT rather than FAT if formatting on PC].

anyway onto this challenge... :sniper:

The laptop has not crashed completely, I can still run it in "safe mode" and all the photos are backed up on an external disk  What bothers me mostly are my mail boxes :slap:

:offt: hi

we've just had a review of major pc retailers fixing capabilities here in the UK and for a simple software fault (such as micetta seems to have) they charged up to R290 to (not) fix it. Less than 20% of them found and fixed the non hardware fault.

If it 'sort of boots' it's more likely to be a software/malware issue rather than hardware; hence a new laptop, although nice, mightn't be the most cost effective solution. IMHO

end of :offt:

Hi Ducklings
Here are the answers for 1420
1) A Fiscal Flycatcher Confusion most likely with Common Fiscal (which is larger and with a longer tail), but lacks the heavier hooked bill and the white 'V' on the back and shoulder
Image
2) A Familiar Chat Orange rump diagnostic (especially noticeable in flight). Frequent wing flicking a good field character. Juv. Has scaly appearance; spotted buff above
Image
3) Kalahari Scrub Robin Sandy coloured with orange rump and white eyebrow. Tail (often held erect) is chestnut-orange with black sub-terminal bar, fringed white. Has no white wingbar as in White-browed Scrub Robin
Image
4) A Male Ostrich
Image
5) Ant-eating ChatDark brown plumage, with distinctive white wing patches in flight, separates it from ♀ Mountain Wheatear which is larger and has a white rump. Small white shoulder patch on ♂ often not visible. ♀ lacks the white shoulder patch, and is slightly paler brown
Image
6) A Chestnut-vented Tit-Babbler Chestnut undertail coverts diagnostic at all ages. A skulking species often unwilling to expose itself in the open. Eyes white, upperparts slightly darker, and more boldly streaked below than Layard's Warbler
Image
7) A Blackwinged Stilt .Unmistakable black-and-white wader with the longest legs relative to body size of any bird.
Image
8 ) A Blacksmith Lapwing
Image

9) Some lesser and greater flamingoes. I just added this pic to remind everyone going to Kimberley not to miss this Last year it was reported that 22000 chicks were raised here
