Can receipts still be used in place of physical cards?

Unread postby annapangolin » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:57 am

I've had Wild Cards consistently since 2008 and have only ever had one actual card (2009... good year). The cards just never arrive in the post. In the past it's always been fine to produce my original wild card receipt. If all goes well, i'll be popping in to KNP this week. I renewed my card last May at Croc Bridge and as usual, the card itself never came despite several phone calls to the call centre. On the receipt, it says it can be used in place of the card for only 30 days. Will I have to buy a new card, or should the old receipt be fine? Anyone else done the same recently? Thanks!

Yes they can still be used.

I've also never had a card and was in the park over DEC/Jan. just with my receipt

You only receive 1 card, when you renew you do not receive a new card.

Thank you both :)

Was told in May that they'd be sending a physical card since the one I have is the really old style of card which is no longer used and has been deactivated.

I'll just bring along my receipt this week then.

Even if you have a card its best to take the receipt with you .. as often you are told you card is out of date .. Just pop the receipt in the cubby hole in the car and so make a copy of it and keep that in a safe place

Anyone been to Hluhluwe - Imfolozi lately?
I've read that they don't accept Wildcards because they can't check the status of card

But DO they accept RECEIPTS for Wildcards ?

We were there in November.
I had just renewed our cards at the end of Oct.
I took the card itself, plus the confirmation of renewal letter, and the proof of payment.
I'm glad to say that I had no problems.

I posted this as a reply to another thread at the end of last year.

saraf wrote:Just to clarify, it's always been the case that some of the KZN parks are not part of the Wild Card scheme.

The list of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife parks that are part of the scheme can be found here.

And as I was looking for this I noticed this disclaimer, right at the bottom of the page:

Wild Card visits

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife
Visitors entering Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife entrance gates with a Wild Card are required to produce proof of applicable membership (All Parks or EKZN Wildlife cluster) and validity. The following forms of proof are accepted: purchase receipt, application completion, or confirmation letter for renewal or update (issued on purchase of a Wild Card). In addition, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife requires proof of identification which corresponds with the ID/passport number on your letter or receipt. In the interests of visitors, existing and potential Wild Card members are reminded of this ruling. Visitors without proof of validity and applicable membership will be denied free access through EKZN Wildlife entrance gates until the Wild Card hardware is rolled out and system training at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is completed.

In summary, not every KNZ Park will accept the Wild Card, those that do need to see your card AND proof of payment/renewal.

Thanks Saraf,
I had seen that but thought this was a good spot to get up to date info of the situation on the ground for Hluhluwe in view of an upcoming visit. I have a rhino card but I think it's expired and was wondering about trying to do something there if it was going to be a hassle with wild card/ letter.
Then I read they are not renewing as they launching a new system in March.

Entry to Imfolozi went smoothly with Wildcard and I.D. Book at gate and again at camp. Took copy of confirmation letter but did not need it.
It was a good weekend to bridge the gap in Kruger visits, but roll on trip to Kruger. Nothing else comes close!
