At the end of the article on the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the April 2012 edition of Getaway they mention that Gus Mills will be releasing a guide to the KTP mid-2012. Can anyone provide more detail? Who will the publisher be? Is there a better indication of the publication date? Can't wait for it to be available!

As far as I know, there's been an unexpected delay because the publisher it was with closed down that division so Gus had to find another publisher. He has now done so, but it's a slow process so we're going to have to be patient.

Thanks for the update!! Great to see that the book is still going ahead. I have Dr Mills' 1989 "Guide to the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park". That is a great book, so I can't wait for the new release. Does anyone know who the publisher will be of the new book?

I cannot find any indication on the Internet whether this publication is still going ahead Elmar, but I found used copies for sale on "Amazon.com" from overseas sellers. Also have a look at ISBNS.GS.

Thanks for your response, Hilda. I think the book you are picking up online is the old Guide to the Kalahari Gemsbok. There was talk that Dr Mills would publish a new book on the Kgalagadi, but it has been so quiet. I hope it still goes ahead. He has a wealth of knowledge on the park.

OK, has anyone ordered successfully from this outfit? I went in there and registered and try to order and it reckons I need a password which it never asked me to specify in the first place. I've been around a few times requesting password resets and subscription codes and all I got is an email to say that there is no match for my email address for any magazine subscription.

Cheers -Ed

Since it's published by Africa Geographic, maybe you have to be an AG subscriber to get the discount?

I have ordered successfully. I am not an AG subscriber and I got the pre-release price. You need to set up a registration at magsathome.

I ordered it via the link above in Nov and have not received it. Apparently the publishers have gone insolvent.
Paid via my credit card and have been told that everything is 'frozen' handed over to lawyers.
I have no book and no refund but still keen to try get my hands on a copy.

Anyone with any suggestions as to if and where I can get a copy from another source.
Thanks

I think if you inform the bank that issued the credit card that this has happened, they are supposed to give you a refund. You have to be persistent though!

The ISBN is 978-0-620-53299-0. The publisher was Black Eagle Media (Pty) Ltd under Africa Geographic Books.

The publisher, Black Eagle Media, was declared bankrupt on 31 October. But the bad boys here are http://www.magsathome.co.za (part of Ramsay Media, which publish Getaway, Car magazine, Popular Mechanics and Leisure Wheels). They have taken money from people and are not supplying the goods. They're referring complaints to their lawyers, and didn't appear to be interested when we quoted the Consumer Act to them. I appreciate that they're in trouble with their suppliers who are now in liquidation, but I contest that our contract is with them (magsathome) not Black Eagle Media, so they should make good on those orders they received up to 31 October - or, of course, issue a refund. They disagree. If anyone else has had any better luck with them I'd love to hear how they achieved it.

As an aside, I believe that the shop at Twee Rivieren has copies, but I'm sure it's selling there for a much higher price.

I bought the book at the end of November at Estoril Books, Fourways Mall, northern Johannesburg. I can't remember the price.

The full title of the book is "A Natural History Guide to the Arid Kalahari including the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park". Authors Gus and Margie Mills. The ISBN number is 978-0-620-532

So far, I have only flicked through the book, but it looks really good - with information on plants, animals, birds and other useful details relating to the area.

Hippotragus,

Was your book also publish by Black Eagle Media or a different publisher? I bought my book at Twee Rivieren shop in Dec that was publish by Black Eagle with the same ISBN number as the one Elmar gave. This book has the same title than the book you bought with a lovely pic of a lion between yellow flowers on the front cover.

It will be good news for those that want to get this book that another publisher took over from Black Eagle.

Agree with annie R that it is the responsibility of magsathome to refund those that did not receive their books. On their website they claim they will refund if you did not receive the goods you have ordered. It might be that they in negotiation with the new publisher to get new stock and therefor the delays to pay out refunds.
