Although she loves photographing birds, my wife is rather scared of them, owing to a childhood experience.

When I got to tick the CVTB, it was not a happy occasion for her. We had just arrived at Nossob for the very first time and bumped into the Nossob ranger, who had started there the day before and was a school friend of our son. He invited us to the hide that night. There was no floodlight installed yet and his wife had a pair of infra red binos that could pick out movement. As my wife sat down, she put her hand on the ledge and felt something 'furry'. She picked it up and it wriggled. a blood curdling scream rent the silence of the hide, the camp and half of the park, as a torch was produced and a terrified CVBT had been rather rudely (wo)manhandled from his bed. I don't know who got the bigger skrik but it might have been better for me to have slept with the bird.
