Hi guys,

Have a look at the following link:

http://www.yearinthewild.com/first-day-in-the-tankwa-karoo-spring-flowers-everywhere/

We had exceptionally good rains during May and June (93mm vs. the average of 42mm for the previous 5 years!) and Tankwa is bursting into life all over…

Hiya LetsieC, thanks for the link, and yes, it took my breath away. Pics of my happy valley (grew up in Calvinia). The aardvark is magnificent, the donkeys at the waterhole brought back vivid memories, and the yellow carpet covering the Tankwa. Sigh. Just breathtaking.

We have just returned from 2 glorious days in the Tankwa - the flowers were spectacular and we were lucky enough to see an ardvark -a first for us-look carefully in the last photo -not a great pic but he would not lift his head! All I can say is if you can get to the Tankwa now you will not regret it :cam: ITImageImageImageImage

We were at the new Hantam NBG
http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/ ... nical.html

and at the Elandsberg cottages to see spring flowers. Too late for July's annual daisies, but everywhere we looked were swathes of magenta vygies.

I'll put up the next post about the cottages and the pool and the bees ;~)

Thank you Elephant's Eye for sharing your Tankwa Karoo experience. I am looking forward reading more about the cottages, the pool and the bees  . The Karoo is such a remarkable and enchanting place. There is nothing quite like a walk through the Karoo on a cold winter’s morning or a sun drenched late summers afternoon. That herb like smell of the veldt is great.

It was the Elandsberg Wilderness Camp -really very beautiful camp but bear in mind it was spring -I imagine it is very barren for the rest of the year. We had two bedrooms, one big bathroom with a large living area plus plunge pool!
