We have been in Addo for a couple of days and were lucky enough to see two beautiful male lions on the domkrag loop. We are not experts on the lions in Addo. Would anyone have an who hangs out in this area. It would be interesting to know what lions are still in Addo.

Only guesswork here, Readles, as last time we were in Addo (March 2012)
all the lions were in the southern section of the park. However, two males
parted from their mum shortly after that, so maybe it's them who establish a new territory. :hmz:

Wonder if they were named by now?

Hi Readles,

I haven't seen Addo lions for a while now, but if they were not the two young brothers, then it should be Roy (Megan's brother) who should be a mature black maned lion by now, and Nomad who is older, but lighter maned from what I see in the pictures.
Need to get back to see them myself!
Thanks for sharing, and God bless,

Hi DB (DP) see you still remember the old name, body has not changed much !!! :) also see that you are quite cold where you are!
Yes DB this was on a tourist road , just about 2km on the Harveys loop road below Addo heights. I am off on patrol from Tuesday at Darlington and will be back about 10 Sept. Give me a call when you are here.
I also had a fab time for a month on patrol in KNP, if I remember I met tou at Croc Bridge just as I finished my stint there and was coming back home.
Those boys really are great, there were two of them. I don't get much into Addo anymore as I am mainly at Darlington.
Have a look in the CC thread as well, I posted there - don't know when I will get back on the threads
again as I am very busy at Darligton/Addo.

Had a wonderful couple of days at Darlington Lodge several years ago.
Had hoped to stay again in 2010 but it was apparently closed.
Any idea what the future holds for the lodge?

Hi JDW - For the foreseeable future it will remain closed - I have managed to keep one room in a usable state for myself when doing duty there. With a new project starting up the conference room has had a bit of restoration and is used for staff training and lectures,

I hope to visit Addo next weeek, the first time in 18 months. One of the main reasons I don't go there so regularly is because the lionesses at Addo have been put on contraceptives for the past few years, with NO cubs now for at least 3-4 years...

That is BORING!

Would somebody be so kind as to forget to give them their tablets one month so they can have some fun and we can have something more interesting to look at?
Just joking -- I know they were injected and it lasted at least 2 years -- but surely its about time they did what the Karoo NP lions did, they just went and got pregnant behind the Sanparks officials' backs anyway!

Last count from Megan a year or two ago was 17 hyenas and 9 lions. I hope it is not 30 hyenas v 9 lions now....

Could somebody please give us the latest score? Seriously.

I am also rather curious to see how much Vali Moosa's tusks have grown since I saw him in April last year...

Thanks and God bless,

We're glad to report that at last census earlier this year, Addo tallied 11 adult lion. Only six hyena were spotted, but there should be more than that - around 17.
