BIG FIVE Sightings
New: Quaterly Hot Spots: Jan-April 2007
Want to know where the sighting “HotSpots” are in Kruger? Let Kruger’s rangers show you were to find the Big Five - Elephant, White Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard in a series of "Big Five HotSpots" maps derived from Kruger’s CyberTracker data.
Each map represents the density of sightings made by rangers using the CyberTracker system. However, some of the large “gaps” in these distribution maps may be a manifestation of low data coverage and not necessarily actual species density e.g. No data available for March – April 2007 from Punda Maria, Shangoni, Woodlands and Letaba sections.

The CyberTracker (CT) System was developed for application in conservation by Louis Liebenberg, as a user-friendly interface developed for PDA's. The system allows literate as well as non-literate field workers to record customised observations with latitude and longitude co-ordinates. If you would like to read more about the Kruger National Park's CyberTracker Program please visit the GIS Lab or if you would like to make a donation to the program, please visit our Support Page.
