Media Release: Earth Day 2012 "Mobilise the Earth"
As the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day approaches, more than one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day on Sunday 22 April 2012 in a bid to help mobilize the Earth.
South African National Parks [SANParks], being a premier conservation agency in South Africa has always been committed towards combating climate change and the loss of biodiversity, and education around conservation, all of which are goals for the Earth Day campaign which aims to highlight the constantly deteriorating condition of the environment and to educate the citizens of the world about how every individual can make a difference.
According to Dr David Mabunda, SANParks CEO, SANParks has committed to take the objectives of the annual Earth Day commemoration and make it a daily goal to ensure that South Africa conserves its natural resources for the benefit of its citizens
“Together we will stand united for a sustainable future for generations to come, it is not just up to conservation bodies such as SANParks, to heed this call, we all have a role to play and we call upon individuals, organizations, and governments to do their part. This collective effort will make a huge difference not only in South Africa but worldwide,” said Dr Mabunda.
Issues such as the greenhouse effect, global warming, toxic waste and overfishing, are a few of the many challenges this world faces and it’s time we commit ourselves to building a safer, healthier, cleaner and sustainable world regardless of race, gender, nationality or faith.
