I am lost here, can anyone direct me to Sanparks response to incident, or is the response coming via pigeon, or wild card department sent response, but now lost  , or a relay of people running down to Kruger and back to find out what happened.

No speculation but as per the norm, it takes a long time to get answers to questions.

We had a close encounter on our December trip. I won't say too much, other than I really believed that we had given a respectful distance. My poor daughters were terrified.

I can't help wondering, with all the poaching, whether the elephants are not picking up on something.

Elephants are now known to be able to communicate long distances, they have a system of sensing danger that is way beyond our comprehension.

There are some very dangerous men with some very nasty weapons reappearing.

Just a thought :hmz:

MM - you are not the only one with that train thought. Sounds far-fetched? Not if you have read "The Elephant Whisperer" and are aware of what happened just after Lawrence Antony's death - when the elephants suddenly appeared at his house and stayed there for a couple of days. With that in mind, elephants becoming "over agitated" in KNP when confronted by vehicles because of some shared knowledge of humans hunting them or other animals in the area is not so far-fetched.

That is such a shame that man had a definite connection with ellies after watching that documentary I learnt so much about ellies I didnt know but I also almost felt comfortable enough to say I wont run away at an ellie sighting again lol that I might just be able to sit breath normally and enjoy them again :)

I drove past the spot yesterday where this happened. There is still glass off the side of the road and the area is pretty trampled by other cars, ambulances etc. It is a straight stretch of road with very little vegetation for an Ellie to hide in. There are NO tyre skid marks. I think that speculation about speeding may be a little premature. I think that a lack of understanding by the occupants of the dangers wildlife can present might go a way to understanding the incident.

The elephant is an amazing animal. We know so little. What might they be picking up?

Is it possible to get there at permitted speed from camp in half an hour Grasha?
